A special requisition is required for this test. This requisition provides specimen collection and drop-off instructions. The laboratory is open from 1000 h to 1300 h on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only. Patients are asked to bring their samples directly to the laboratory on those days. LABORATORY TESTS NOT COVERED BY ALBERTA HEALTH CARE
Not all laboratory tests are covered as insured tests under Alberta Health Care. Some of the tests are termed as “uninsured “ or "third party tests" as they are paid for by the patient, employer or some other party. A list of these tests follows:
Laboratory Tests Not Covered by Alberta Health Care
Situations When Testing is Uninsured
- attending camps
- chelation therapy
- company drug screens
- emigration
- employment
- immigration
- institution - universities
- insurance
- judicial
- Ministry of Transport – motor vehicle licenses (except for persons over 69 years of age)
- naturopathic laboratory testing
- out of province confidential billing
- participation in sports
- passport and visa
- patients with no Alberta Health Care coverage who present to the laboratory with tests ordered by a physician are required to pre-pay for the test
- pilot’s licence
- refugees
- residents of Quebec (patients must pay for testing and are reimbursed from their provincial plan)
